BORN HULL 1884. SON OF ROSALIND & LATE ROBERT BLACK. WIFE ANNIE ELIZABETH (BARON) BLACK LIVED AT THIS CWGC. NAVY ADDRESS.
SS Hazelwood, built by Ropner & Son, Stockton in 1904 and owned at the time of her loss by Gascony SS. Co. Ltd. (L. Walford Ltd.), was a British steamer of 3120 tons.
On October 19th, 1917, Hazelwood, on a voyage from the Tyne with a cargo of coal, was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-62 (Max Schmitz), 8 miles SxE1/2E from Anvil Point. 32 persons were lost.
