BORN BEVERLEY 28/11/1870. SON OF CATHERINE (KATE) ARKSEY, SADLETHORPE, YORKSHIRE. MARRIED TO EMILY GERTRUDE RICHARDSON (1873-1962). THEY HAD 6 CHILDREN & LIVED AT THIS HULL ADDRESS (1911 CENSUS). A FORMER SOLDIER. EX 1889, EYR. HE HAD ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY ON 08/11/1889. SERVED IN INDIA, EGYPT AND SOUTH AFRICA, DURING THE BOER WAR. WORKED AS A RAILWAY LOADER AND LABOURER IN CIVILIAN LIFE. HE RE-ENLISTED 0N 14/12/1914. ARRIVED FRANCE ON 14/12/1914. POSTED AS SERGEANT, TO THE ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORPS, WORKING WITH THE RAILWAY SECTION. HE DID NOT REPORT SICK FOR 2 YEARS, BUT FROM WINTER 1916 HIS HEALTH DETERIORATED. BECAME WEAK, THIN, WITH BREATHING DIFFICULTIES. HE WAS DISCHARGED AS PHYSICALLY UNFIT ON 08/06/1917. NATURAL CAUSES, AGGRAVATED BY MILITARY SERVICE. DIED ON 12/04/1918, AGED 47. BURIED HULL.HIS DEATH IS NOT RECORDED IN CWGC RECORDS.
