On February 1st, 1922, the British trawler MAGNETA, built in 1915 by Cochrane & Sons Shipbuilders and owned by Ross, Francis & Thomas, Ltd, was wrecked in a hurrican. 9 crew and 2 Russians lost their lives.The MAGNETA was fishing legally 9 miles from the Russian border. Despite that, she was arrested and ordered to anchor at Porchnika Bay. Unfortunately, a hurricane made her ran shore and she was lost with 9 crew members and 2 Russian members of the gunboat's crew. Only 2 crew members, who were taken aboard the gunboat survived. A long legal battle between the British and Russian government ended with the Russians finally accepting liability.
