BORN ALDBOROUGH, YORKSHIRE 1878. A LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, JOINING THE 11TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (2ND HULL PALS) ON 09/09/1914, AGED OF 35 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT 9 INCHES TALL, 163 LBS WEIGHT, 39 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES AND DARK HAIR. PROMOTED TO CORPORAL, ON 12/10/1914. DISCHARGED WITH HEART DISEASE ON 25/09/1915. SERVED FOR 1 YEAR AND 17 DAYS. HIS CHARACTER ON DISCHARGE WAS DESCRIBED AS 'VERY GOOD'. HE DIED ON 23/11/1915, AGED 40. BURIED ST PETERS CHURCHYARD, HOWDEN. HE MARRIED FLORENCE ANN DRURY AT HOWDEN ON 11/01/1903 AND LEFT A WIDOW. NO CHILDREN.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ALDBROUGH VILLAGE WAR MEMORIAL.
