BORN FELTHORPE, NORFOLK, 1893. SON OF JAMES AND GRACE SELINA BARNEY, OF FELTHORPE, NORFOLK. HE HAD 4 BROTHERS AND 7 SISTERS. TWO SISTERS WERE MARRIED AND LIVING IN BEVERLEY.

EMPLOYED AS A BRICKLAYER AND FARM WORKER AT NEW HOLLAND FARM, TICKTON. HIS ARMY RECORD, DESCRIBED HIM, AS 5 FOOT, 5.5 INCHES TALL, 34-36 INCH CHEST, 123 LBS WEIGHT,. HE COULD NOT READ OR WRITE.

HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY, ON 09/02/1916. FORMERLY, PRIVATE,  24689 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 10TH YORK & LANCASTER REGIMENT, ON 01/09/1916. KILLED WHILE TAKING FOOD TO THE TRENCHES, ON 05/10/1917, AGED 23. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, GRACE. HE LEFT A FIANCEE, LILLIE (HDM 07/10/1917).

HE HAD SERVED 132 DAYS IN THE ARMY. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING, BELGIUM.

HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE BEVERLEY WW1 MEMORIAL AND THE TICKTON WW1 MEMORIAL WHERE HE LIVED AND WORKED.
