Born Stonferry, Hull, 1889. An orphan. He had no parents or siblings. He married in 1911. Husband of Lily May Bateman, of 3 Florence Grove, Lorraine Street, Stoneferry, Hull (Army Records Address) and 1 Barmston House, Barmston Street, Hull (War Pension address). They had a son William Allen, born 17/08/1915, who died, 30/08/1915.
William Norris Moore Allen was a former labourer and 4th East Yorkshire Territorial. Described as 5 foot, 5 inches tall, 139 lbs weight, 36-38 inch chest, good physical development,
He enlisted in Hull, on 28/12/1914 aged 25. He joined the 2nd East Yorkshire Regiment. Posted to France, on 28/05/1915.
Killed in action at Loos, on 28/09/1915, aged 26. Commemorated at the Loos Memorial.
His army effects were left to his childless widow, who moved to her mother’s Ruth Bateman, at 102 Barmston Street, after his death.
