Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE JOHN WILLIAM ANDREWS 14/211. Real name, Andrew William James Reid. ‘John’ was born in 1892 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was the son of Andrew and Annie Reid of Gibbotson, South Island, New Zealand. Living in Hull when war broke out, he originally joined the 1/4th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment before being transferred to the 11th. John was wounded during the critical days of the German Spring Offensive, and withdrawn from the front line to the field ambulances at Bertrancourt where he died of wounds on 30th May 1918. John is buried in Bertrancourt Military Cemetery; he was 26 years old.
