Ansell, William Herbert

BORN HULL 1887. ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM HENRY ANSELL & LOUISE ELEANOR WILDRIDGE (1861-1940). HE HAD A YOUNGER BROTHER, CHARLES AND HIS MOTHER REMARRIED BECOMING MRS HARMAN. HE MARRIED ADA MARWOOD (1889-1958), AT HULL IN 1910, AGED 23. HE WORKED AS A JOINER AND LIVED AT 4 HILDAS AVENUE, PERTH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 07/08/1917, AGED 30.
RECORDED ON ST MATHEWS CHURCH ROH, BOULEVARD. HIS NAME IS ALSO INSCRIBED ON THE KIRKELLA WAR MEMORIAL AT ST ANDREWS’ CHURCH.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 09/08/1918. HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS WIDOW, ADA, AND THEIR TWO CHILDREN, WHO MOVED TO WILLERBY, HULL, AFTER THE WAR.
