Ashforth, Henry

BORN BIRMINGHAM 1881. FULL NAME ALBERT HENRY ASHFORTH. SON OF JAMES ASHFORTH (1849-1907) AND ESTHER WRIGHT. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS.

HE MARRIED CHARLOTTE WEST, AT BRIMINGHAM IN 1907. THEY HAD ONE SON, ERNEST (BORN 29/02/1908).

THE 1911 CENSUS SHOWS THAT HE LIVED WITH SISTER, AT 441 NEW JOHN STREET, WINSOR GREEN, BIRMINGHAM. EMPLOYED AS A TOOL GRINDER.

HIS MARRIED AGAIN, HIS WIDOW FLORENCE, WAS GUARDIAN OF HIS SON AND LIVED AT 132, LAMBERT STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN WARWICK. SERVED WITH THE 10TH LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 26/03/1918, AGED 37. COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, FRANCE.

HIS BROTHER, WILLIAM JOHN ASHFORTH WAS KILLED IN FRANCE, ON 10/04/1915, AGED 38. HIS BROTHER, SAMUEL RALPH ASHFORTH, LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS, WAS KILLED AT GALLIPOLI, ON 04/06/1915, AGED 36.
