BORN HULL 30/11/1892. AN ENGINE CLEANER. DESCRIBED IN HIS ARMY RECORDS, AS 5 FOOT 6.5 INCHES TALL, 118 LBS WEIGHT, 35.5 INCH CHEST, SALLOW COMPLEXION, GREY EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR, SCARS ABOVE AND UNDER RIGHT EYE AND ON HIS CENTRAL FOREHEAD.

HE ENLISTED IN MANCHESTER, ON 02/09/1914, AGED 22 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS. SERVED IN FRANCE, FROM 26/01/1915. WITH THE 1ST RIFLE BRIGADE. WOUNDED IN ACTION, ON 03/05/1915. DIED AS A PRISONER OF WAR, IN GERMANY, ON 19/07/1915, AGED 23. HE HAD SERVED FOR 327 DAYS.
BURIED COLOGNE SOUTHERN CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE”.
UNMARRIED. HIS PARENTS DECEASED. HIS OLDER BROTHER, ALBERT BARKER LIVED IN HULL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO ANOTHER BROTHER, JOSIAH BARKER, WHO LIVED AT 18 RENSHAW STREET, MANCHESTER. HE ALSO LEFT SISTERS, BEATRICE, HARRIET, ALICE AND NELLIE.
