BORN STADDLETHORPE, YORK 1885. ONLY CHILD OF JAMES JOSEPH JACKSON AT 48, MYTON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION & CWGC ADDRESS). HIS SISTER DIED IN INFANCY. HE ALSO LIVED AT 5 CROSS STREET, OFF BROOK STREET, HULL CITY CENTER (ARMY ADDRESS). A SINGLE MAN. WORKED AS A LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 22/04/1915, AGED 27 YEARS AND 270 DAYS. HIS ARMY RECORDS, DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT 6 INCHES TALL, 36 INCH CHEST, 126 LBS WEIGHT, TATTOO OF “I LOVE FLORENCE” ON ONE ARM AND A LADIES HEAD ON THE OTHER.

HE SERVED WITH THE HULL PALS IN EGYPT. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 08/03/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EYR. DIED OF GUN SHOT WOUNDS, ON 27/04/1918, AGED 33, AT 13TH (USA) GENERAL HOSPITAL. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 3 YEARS AND 16 DAYS.
BURIED AT BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “WEEP NOT FOR ME AS YOU PASS BY. I ONLY DID MY BIT”
