Bratton, William

BORN HULL 1885. SON OF THOMAS CUTHBERTSON & SARAH ANN (WITHERS) OF 12 RICHMOND TERRACE, HARROW STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). A HESSLE ROAD SEAMAN. HE WAS LIVING AT 75 ETON STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS).

SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY. HE WAS KILLED WHEN HIS SHIP WAS MINED, ON 23/08/1915, AGED 31. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVY MEMORIAL, LONDON. HIS THREE STEP BROTHERS ALSO DIED. THEY WERE WILFRED, AND SYDNEY CUTHBERTSON, BOTH LOST IN 1917 AND WILLIAM CUTHBERTSON IN 1919. A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE BRATTONS APPEARS IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL 14TH JUNE 1915. *
