Broderick, Arthur

BORN HULL 01/07/1883. SON OF PETER BRODERICK (1843-1918) & HARRIET JACKSON (1844-1883). HE HAD EIGHT BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS. HIS MOTHER DIED WHEN HE WAS YOUNG AND HE LIVED WITH HIS BROTHER, THOMAS AT 6 FREDERICK TERRACE, NORNABELL STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). ALSO LIVED WITH HIS AUNTIE JANE BRODERICK, AT 16 BALFOUR CRESCENT, NORNABELL STREET. HE WAS UNMARRIED AND WORKED AS A PLATER BEFORE THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED ON 02/10/1914 IN THE HULL PALS. SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 15/12/1915. ARRIVED FRANCE ON 08/03/1916. WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL IN APRIL 1916 WITH DYSENTRY. GIVEN 28 DAYS FIELD PUNISHMENT NO:1 ON 02/11/1916. TOOK PART IN THE ATTACK ON SERRE, ON 13/11/1916. DIED OF WOUNDS TO CHEST, SCALP AND ARM ON 22/11/1916, AGED 33. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS SISTER, MRS MARY ANN GILLIES, AT 34 FIELD STREET, HULL. THEY INCLUDED A LETTER, POSTCARD, PHOTO, A RELIGIOUS MEDALLION, A ROSARY, A FEATHER AND A RELIGIOUS BOOK. HE IS BURIED AT WARLINCOURT HALTE BRITISH CEMETERY, SAULTY, FRANCE.
