Withernsea WW1 Memorial, Queens Street. The memorial was erected in 1923 at a cost of £451, the funds for which were collected through public subscription. A service of dedication was held in 1924. Inscribed in four columns, are the names of sixty-four men killed in World War I.

BORN HULL 1887. SON OF THE LATE JOSEPH AN ALICE BROWN, BRIAR VILLE, WITHERNSEA.. HUSBAND OF HILDA C. BROWN AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS. WORKED FOR HIS FATHER, AS A CLERK IN A TOBACCONIST AND FANCY GOODS SHOP. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS LANCE CORPORAL IN THE 1/4TH KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY. HE MARRIED HILDA C. SYKES, IN HULL IN 1916. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 13/04/1918, AGED 31. COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL. HE LEFT A SISTER RACHEL AND £130 TO WILLIAM SHIPSTONE, A PAPER MERCHANT.
