BORN HULL 24/11/1881. SON OF GEORGE CALEY (1843-1921) & ELIZA THOMPSON ( 1847-1918), OF HULL. ONE OF EIGHT CHILDREN. FIVE OF WHICH DIED IN INFANCY. A STEVEDORE AND GRAIN FOREMAN. HE MARRIED ADA TASKER, AT ST JAMES CHURCH, SUTTON ON HULL, ON 23/12/1908. HUSBAND OF ADA CALEY, AT 3 IVY VILLAS, MIDDLEBURG STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 8 EAST PARK AVENUE, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE ENLISTED IN THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (1ST HULL PALS BATTALION). KILLED IN ACTION, ON 25/06/1916, AGED 35.
BURIED ON THE SOMME, AT BERTRANCOURT MILITARY CEMETERY. HE LEFT A BROTHER, THOMAS, AND SISTER, JANE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ADA , AND SON CHARLES CALEY (1910-1992)
