Born Hull, 23 Apr 1883. Son of Thomas Carmichael (1832-1883) and Ann Harrison (1845-1911). he had three brothers and two sisters.
He was a general Labourer (1901), timber carrier (1905) and Licensed Victualler at the Queens Hotel, Charlotte St Hull (1911 census).
He played as goal kicking Full back for Hull Kingston Rovers between 1910-1914, playing 339 matches and scoring 1,490 points. (He still jointly holds Hull Kingston Rovers’ “Goals In A Match” record, with 14 goals). He also represented England in 1913.
Married at Drypool, Hull, on 28 Jan 1905. Husband of Mary Ann Clyens Carmichael (1880-1962), of 281, Holderness Road, Hull (War pension address). They had two children, Ada and George. He was a Licensed Victualler at the Queens Hotel, Charlotte Street, Hull (1911 Census).
Served in the Royal Navy from 16 Jan 1918 to 31 Mar 1918 and was present at the battle of Jutland on HMS Daedalus. Transferred to the Royal Air Force, on 16 Jan 1918 . Died of paralysis, at Hull City Asylum, Hull, on 29 Sep 1921, aged 37.
He left £1,702 in his will to his wife at this Probate Address.
His son George Carmichael (1908-1985), also played 180 rugby league games for Hull Kingston Rovers (1928-1934), before moving on to play for Bradford Northern
