BORN HULL 1886. SON OF THE LATE JOHN & ZILAH CARR OF 59 , CHOLMLEY STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED FOR HIS FATHER’S BUILDING BUSINESS. HE WAS WELL KNOWN IN LOCAL FOOTBALL CIRCLES AND HE PLAYED FOR HORNSEA FOOTBALL CLUB.

HE WENT TO AUSTRALIA IN 1911 AND ENLISTED IN NORTH QUEENSLAND. HE WAS SENT TO FRANCE, AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TRAINING IN ENGLAND. SERVED AS LANCE CORPORAL, IN THE 47TH AUSTRALIAN IMPERIEL FORCE. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 29/09/1917, AGED 31. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE TPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HE HAD BEEN HOME FOUR WEEKS BEFORE HIS DEATH. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 7TH SEPTEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
