BORN HULL 1883. SON OF ROBERT CLARKE & MARY ELIZABETH BRADLEY, OF 12 GEORGE PLACE, COLLIER STREET, HULL (1891 CENSUS) & 14 ALBERT TERRACE, SPRING STREET, HULL. A PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER. WITH THE 2ND EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, WHEN WAR BEGAN. HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 7763, ‘D’ COMPANY, 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS AT A BASE HOSPITAL, ON 10/11/1915, AGED 32.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 10/11/1916, AND ON 17/11/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. ALSO, THE HULL TIMES, ON 20/11/1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HE IS BURIED AT BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN H. & E.W.”
