BORN HULL 1887. SON OF CHARLES EDWARD & ELIZABETH CLINTON, OF 15 ELLIS TERRACE, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL. A TINNER’S LABOURER. HE MARRIED KATE VERNEY, AT HULL, ON 24/12/1908. HIS WIFE FANNY & SON HARRY (BORN 06/08/1913), LIVED AT THIS ARMY ADDRESS. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 05/11/1914, AGED 27 YEARS AND 90 DAYS. POSTED TO THE 13TH EAST TORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE SERVED IN EGYPT, FRANCE AND BELGIUM. TRANSFERRED AS PRIVATE, 766, “D” COMPANY, 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT FOR FOUR AND HALF YEARS. HE DIED OF INFLUENZA, AT GOSFORTH HOSPITAL, NEWCASTLE, ON 12/12/1918, AGED 31. HE IS BURIED AT HULL WESTERN CEMETERY. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 4 YEARS AND 23 DAYS. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 30TH DECEMBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS BROTHER, DAVID CLINTON, WAS KILLED IN ACTION, IN 1916. HE LEFT OTHER BROTHERS, CHARLES AND ARTHUR, AND SIX MARRIED SISTERS, SUSAN JORDAN, ALICE McCLOUD, ADA WILKINSON, ANNIE DENMAN, NELLIE, McGOWAN AND ROSE CLARK.
