BORN HULL 1898. THIRD SON OF ALBERT & MARGARET (WALKER) COCKERILL ABOVE. FAMILY ALSO LIVED AT 6 JOHNS PLACE, YORK STREET, (1911 CENSUS) AND 231 WINCOLMLEE. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN. THREE SONS LOST IN THE WAR. EDWARD WORKED AS A LABOURER. HIS MOTHER DIED IN 1914. ENLISTED HULL, 13/05/1916, GIVING THE AGE OF 19 AND 4 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 3 INCHES TALL, 33.5 INCH CHEST, 103 LBS. ARRIVED FRANCE 12/12/1916. WOUNDED IN ACTION 09/04/1917. KILLED IN ACTION, 15/06/1917, AGED 19. HE WAS UNMARRIED. HIS CAP BADGE AND POCKET KNIFE, WERE RETURNED TO HIS FATHER. HIS ELDER BROTHERS FRANK AND ALBERT WERE ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR.
EDWARD COCKERILL IS BURIED AT COJEUL BRITISH CEMETERY, ST. MARTIN-SUR-COJEUL, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN FROM FATHER & FAMILY”
