BORN ALNWICK, NORTHUMBERLAND, 1897. SON OF JOHN WILLIAM CONING (1862-1912) & (MARTHA) KATE TIPTON (1865-1922), OF 18 WILLIS STREET, YORK. BROTHER TO SISTERS, HYLDA, AND LUCY AND BROTHER ATHOLE. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 1598, 3RD ROYAL ARMY MEDICAL CORPS (RAMC). (SOLDIERS DIED RECORDS STATE THAT HE WAS BORN IN HULL). HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 20/04/1915. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, TEN DAYS LATER, ON 30/04/1915, AGED 18, AT NO 11 GENERAL HOSPITAL, BOULOGNE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, KATE.
HIS NAME IS LISTED ON HULL’S WENLOCK BARRACKS RAMC ROLL OF HONOUR.
HE IS BURIED AT BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY.
