BORN HULL 1895. SON OF JOSEPH AND ADA CORNER (1867-1944), OF 10, ALFRED TERRACE, DALTRY STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SECOND OF FIVE CHILDREN. EMPLOYED AS A FISH PACKER, AT MESSRS, C. BUTTERS, ON HULL FISH DOCK. HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 16/11/1914, AGED 19 YEARS AND 7 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 149 LBS WEIGHT, 35.5 INCH CHEST. TATTOO OF AN ANCHOR ON LEFT FOREARM. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 15/12/1915. SERVED AS PRIVATE, 13/59, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 06/08/1916, AGED 21. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 265 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ADA. HIS BROTHER, PTE. JOSEPH CORNER, 15TH HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY LIVED AT SAME ADDRESS. HE ALSO LEFT THOMAS, ANN AND LILY.
HE IS BURIED AT ST. VAAST POST MILITARY CEMETERY, RICHEBOURG-L’AVOUE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THY WILL BE DONE”
