BORN HULL, 17/11/1888. SON OF WILLIAM COWL (1859-1920) AND CHARLOTTE GAGE (1860-1893), OF 6 HOBSON STREET, MEANWOOD ROAD, LEEDS (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A BRICKLAYER. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS. WORKED AS A GENERAL LABOURER.

ENLISTED HULL. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 30/08/1915. SERVED AS A GUNNER, IN THE 107TH ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. KILLED IN ACTION ON 07/01/1918, AGED 29. HE IS BURIED AT ROISEL COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, WILLIAM COWL AT “CLEAVELAND”, ANLABY PARK ROAD, HULL PROBATE ADDRESS, AND THEN TO MRS FAITH COWL, AT 3 BOND STREET, GROVES, YORK (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS).
