BORN SOUTH FERRIBY 1886. SON OF ELIZA LONG. HE MARRIED EMILY BAILEY IN 1910. HIS WIFE & 3 CHILDREN LIVED AT 17 MYRTLE GROVE, NORNABELL STREET (1911 CENSUS) AND AT 5 ALASKA VILLA’S, BARNSLEY STREET, HULL. BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED FOR MESSERS NORTH SAW MILLS & AS A FITTER FOR THE NER DOCK ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, VICTORIA DOCKS, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL AS 24885, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 49TH MACHINE GUN COMPANY. KILLED IN ACTION, 16/08/1917, AGED 31.

HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE TYNE COT CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH PRINTED ON 01/09/1917. *
