Cross, John Henry

Born Hull 1892. Son of George Henry Cross (1867-1940) & Elizabeth Wrate (1864-1937), at 88, Brunswick Avenue, Hull (CWGC Address).

He in enlisted in Hull Pals, joining the 13th East Yorkshire Regiment, known as the Hull Sportsman Battalion. He transferred to ‘C’ Company in the 1/4th East Yorkshire Battalion. He was captured in action on 06/09/1918. Died a prisoner of war, in Germany, on 23/09/1918, aged 27. He is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial to the missing in France. A single man. His army effects were left to his mother, Elizabeth.

His name is listed on Hull’s Clifton Street, School, Roll of Honour and Hull’s Grange Street Shrine as killed.
His brothers, George William Cross, 755345, Royal Field Artillery, and Francis Wilfred Cross, also served.
