Married at Hull, in 1915. Husband of Elizabeth Brignall Dutton (formerly Crossland), of 116, Trinity Street, Spring Bank, Hull.
He enlisted at Barnsley. Posted to France, on 15 Jan 1915. Served in the 8th Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Died of wounds, on 03 Oct 1916, aged 26.
Buried at Becourt Military Cemetery (Bécourt). His grave inscription, reads, “ALSO IN MEMORY OF 201225 PTE. W. BRIGNALL E. YORKS RGT. MISSING 22.3.18 LOVED BY ALL”
His army effects were left to his widow, Elizabeth. She received a weekly war pension of 13/9 Shillings.
