Cundill, William Duttson

BORN HULL 1897. ENLISTED HULL. SON OF GEORGE ROBERT CUNDILL (1867-1921) & MARY ELIZABETH GILES, OF 14 PLEASANT PLACE, NEPTUNE STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 135 , BEAN STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). BEFORE JOINING THE ARMY , HE WAS EMPLOYED BY MR HARRY ANDREW, JOINER AND UNDERTAKER, OF 52 WELLSTED STREET, HULL.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL AND SERVED AS AN ACTING BOMBARDIER, IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. HE DIED ON 21/101/1916, AGED 19. COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL ON THE SOMME. HE LEFT A SWEETHEART CALLED ELSIE.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 28/11/1916. *

HIS NAME WAS RECORDED ON THE WAR MEMORIAL AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, CAMPBELL STREET, WHICH WAS DESTROYED IN AN AIR RAID DURING WW2.
