Born Aldbrough, Hull, 24/03/1882. Emigrated to Canada, where he worked as a painter.

His army records described him, as 5 foot, 5.5 inches tall, 175 lbs weight, 39-42 inch chest, blue eyes, black hair, Church of England religion.

He enlisted at Calgary, 26/10/1915. Served with the 46th Canadian Expeditionary Force. Arrived in England, on 29/05/1916. Landed in France, on 29/08/1916. Killed at Vimy Ridge, on 08/10/1916, aged 34.

His army effects were left to his sister, Lydia Merryweather, of 26 Netherley Street, Oldham, Lancashire.

Commemorated on the Aldbrough WW1 Memorial, East Yorkshire.
