BORN HULL 1891. SON OF GEORGE WILLIAM DAUBNEY (1869-1932) & JANE HAGUES (1867-1938) AT 39 RICHMOND TERRACE, CHARLES STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SERVED AS SECOND MATE IN THE MERCHANT NAVY. HE LIVED AT ALBANY ROAD, LIVERPOOL. HIS SHIP “MERTON HALL”, WAS FROM LIVERPOOL. HE WAS LOST AT SEA, ON 20/02/1918, AGED 26. HE LEFT £141 IN HIS WILL TO OLIVIA IRVIN, A SPINSTER.

SS Merton Hall, built by Palmers’ Shipbuilding & Iron Co. Ltd., Newcastle in 1889 and owned at the time of her loss by Hall Line, Ltd., Liverpool, was a British steamer of 4327 tons. On February 11th, 1918, Merton Hall, on a voyage from New York to La Pallice with a cargo of Steel, was sunk by the German submarine U-53 (Hans Rose), 30 miles NxW from Ushant (Ouessant). 57 persons were lost.
