BORN BOLTON, LANCASHIRE, 1891. ELDEST SON OF WILLIAM DAVENPORT AND MARTHA AINSWORTH, OF 24 JOSEPH LEE STREET, BOLTON. SECOND OF EIGHT CHILDREN. A PAWN BROKER’S ASSISTANT. HE ENLISTED AT BURY, IN 1909. SERVED WITH THE MANCHESTER REGIMENT AND LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS AS A REGULAR SOLDIER. AT THE OUTBREAK OF WAR HE WAS APPOINTED AS DRILL INSTRUCTOR IN HULL. HE SERVED IN FRANCE FOR 18 MONTHS AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON THE 3RD MAY 1917. HIS WIDOW JANE LIVED AT 138 FRANCIS STREET, HULL. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 19TH DECEMBER 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, JANE DAVENPORT AND HE LEFT £164 IN HIS WILL TO HER AT 8 NORFOLK STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD (PROBATE ADDRESS)
