BORN KEYINGHAM 1879. ONLY SON OF THOMAS & SARAH DAWSON, HULL CITY ASYLUM COTTAGES, WILLERBY. A SHOP ASSISTANT AND MILITARY BUYER. HE MARRIED ON 18/10/1904. HIS WIFE BEATRICE TOTTIE, LIVED AT 10 MARSHFIELD PLACE, MARSHFIELD, BRADFORD. THEY HAD ONE SON, CALLED CYRIL.

HE ENLISTED IN LIVERPOOL ON 11/05/1916. SERVED AS A GUNNER, IN THE ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 30/09/1916. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 04/07/1917, AGED 38.

HE LEFT £126 IN HIS WILL TO HIS FATHER WHO WAS A TAILOR AND HIS BROTHER JAMES, A DRAPER. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 24/07/1916. HE IS BURIED AT RIDGE WOOD MILITARY CEMETERY, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “TO MEMORY EVER DEAR FROM HIS WIFE & SON”.
