BORN HULL 1884. SON OF MARK & MARY DAWSON AT THIS ADDRESS. HIS BROTHERS, THOMAS, ARTHUR & WALTER ALL SERVED AT THIS ADDRESS. PRIOR TO THE WAR ROBERT DAWSON WAS A FOUNDRY WORKER. AT THE NATIONAL RADIATOR WORKS, HULL HE ENLISTED IN HULL. WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT LOOS, ON 29/09/1915, AGED 31. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE LOOS MEMORIAL, FRANCE.
HIS PLATOON COMMANDER WROTE THAT “HE WAS LIKED BY ONE AND ALL AND ADMIRED FOR HIS COOLNESS AND DARING WHEREVER HE WAS.”
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, ON 4TH NOVEMBER 1915, AND IN THE HULL TIMES, ON 6TH NOVERMBER 1915, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *

His name is listed on the Wainfleet Terrace, Roll of Honour, (Hull Daily Mail 29 December 1916).
