BORN GOOLE 1892, SON OF WILLIAM DONNELLY & JANE ANN STANIFORTH (1856-1934). HE HAD TWO HALF BROTHERS, GEORGE AND WILLIAM STANNIFORTH AND A SISTER, IVY (1896-1982), WHO LIVED AT 4 WATSON’S TERRACE, SPRING STREET, HULL. THE FAMILY ALSO LIVED AT 17 HARPER STREET, SELBY, (1911 CENSUS), WHERE HE WORKED AS A LABOURER. HE MOVED TO HULL. WITH HIS PARENTS WHO LIVED AT 10 BOWERS TERRACE, WATERLOO STREET, HULL. WHEN HIS FATHER DIED, HIS MOTHER JANE MOVED TO THIS ADDRESS. HE AGAIN WORKED AS A LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 16/11/1914. HE JOINED THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WITH HIS BROTHER, JAMES CORNELIUS DONNELLY. HE SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION, AT SERRE, ON 13/11/16 (ORIGINALLY POSTED AS WOUNDED & MISSING.) HE IS COMMEMORATED AT EUSTON ROAD CEMETERY, COLINCAMPS, FRANCE.
HIS BROTHERN, JAMES DONNELLY (1890-1918), WHO HAD JOINED UP WITH HIM, HAD BEEN TRANSFERRED TO THE 6TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT (EYR) AND SO MISSED THE SERRE ATTACK. JAMES WAS TO DIE IN THE GERMAN OFFENSIVE IN 1918 WHILST SERVING WITH THE 4TH EYR, ON 10/04/1918, AGED 27. THEY LEFT A WIDOWED MOTHER AND SISTER IVY AT THIS ADDRESS.
