ONLY CHILD OF WILLIAM JAMES DARFFIN (1871-1935) & THE LATE MARGARET DRAFFIN (1868-1917), OF 13 VENTOR STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS & HDM ADDRESS, 11/07/1918). SON OF HULL TRAMWAY INSPECTOR OF 5 ROSEBERRY STREET, ALBERT AVENUE, HULL. HE WORKED AS A FARMER. THIS WAS HIS ARMY ADDRESS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 9.5 INCHES TALL, 120 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, VARIOUS TATTOOS ON BOTH ARMS AND HANDS, PRESBYTERIAN RELIGION, “GOOD CHARACTER”.

HE ENLISTED HULL ON 12/01/1916, AGED 21. EX 128029 ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, & ROYAL IRISH FUSLIERS. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 26/03/1917. REPORTED WOUNDED AND MISSING. PRESUMED KILLED AT YPRES, ON 16/08/1917. HIS MOTHER DIED SOON AFTER. HE WAS UNMARRIED. BURIED AT NEW IRISH FARM, BELGIUM. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOWED FATHER.
