Durham, Charles

Born Wressell, Yorkshire, 1880. Son of David Durham (1837-1906) and Mary Ann Richard (1839-1912). He had three sisters and two brothers. He was employed as a Railway Operator.

He married at Leeds, in 1906. Enlisted Leeds. Husband of Carrie Kirby, of 16, Clark Road, Pontefract Lane, Leeds (1911 census) and 95, Belmont Street, Hull (War Pension address).

Served as a Pioneer, in the Royal Engineers, “J” Special Coy. Killed in action, on 22/03/1918, aged 37. Commemorated on the Arras memorial, France.

His army effects were left to his widow, Carrie.

His elder brother, John Henry Durham, a NER Rullyman, lived at 34, Marmaduke Street, Hull and died at Hull, in 1918, aged 49.
