Ellerington, Charles Edwin

Born Knottingley, Yorkshire, 04/02/ 1886. Son of Charles William Ellerington (1861-1942) and Susannah Ellerington (1863-1944), of Knottingley, Yorkshire. He had five brothers and one sister.

He married Winifred Stonecliffe, at Sculcoates, Hull in 1916. Husband of Winifred Ellerington, of 168A Beverley Road, Hull. She was from Hull and her family lived at 19 Grange Street, Hull (1911 Census)

A Professional Soldier who had been stationed in China and Hong Kong (1911 Census). Enlisted Pontefract.

Served during the war with the 1st and 9th King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Killed in action, on 09/04/1917, aged 31. His army effects were left to his widow, Winifred.

He is buried at Cojeul British Cemetery, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. His grave inscription, reads, “ONE OF THE BEST”.

He is commemorated on the Knottingley WW1 memorial, which contains 202 men who fell in WW1
