Born High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, 1891. Son of Leonard Essex (1865-1924) and Jessie Alice Morley (1866-1936), of 1 Brook St, High Wycombe, Bucks.

Married at High Wycombe on 4 Aug 1912. Husband of Cecilia Pym Essex, of 1, Willow Terrace, Regent Street, Hull (CWGC address). He had two children, Harold and Violet. worked as a Motor Driver. Described as 5 foot, 6 inches tall, 126 lbs weight, 36-40 inch chest, good physical development.

Enlisted at High Wycombe, on 14 Dec 1914. Served oversea, in the Royal Army Service Corps, 16th Aux. Bus Coy. Mechanical Transport. Died of Influenza and Pneumonia, at the 45th CCS, on 02/11/1918. His army effects were left to his widow Cecilia and daughter Violet. His son died in infancy. Awarded a weekly war pension of 20/5 shillings, on 19 May 1919.
