BORN HULL 1891. SON OF ALFRED FARRAH (1858-1938) & MARIA MORRELL (1862-1948), OF 2 , WAWNE STREET, SPRING BANK, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN SONS AND SON IN LAW SERVING. HE ALSO HAD TWO SISTERS.

EMPLOYED AS A BUTCHER (1911 CENSUS). HE WORKED FOR TWO YEARS AS AN ASSISTANT FITTER WITH THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS.

HE MARRIED FRANCES ANN TROWILL, IN JULY 1911. THEY LIVED AT 182, DE LA POLE AVENUE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THE HAD ONE SON, HARRY, BORN ON 14TH SEPTEMBER, 1912.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1/5TH BORDER REGIMENT. WAS KILLED AT ARRAS ON 23/04/1917, AGED 26. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE ARRAS MEMORIAL, TO THE MISSING.

RICHARD LEFT HIS ARMY EFFECTS TO HIS WIDOW, FRANCES FARRAH AND SON, HARRY FARRAH, TO MOURN HIS LOSS. FRANCES RE-MARRIED A CIVILIAN, ROBERT ARTHUR BAILEY, ON 29TH SEPTEMBER 1917.

RICHARD’S DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON THE 14TH JULY 1917.

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, JOHN FARRAH, 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 13/11/1916, AGED 33. HE LIVED AT 3 LEONARDS AVENUE, RHODES STREET, HULL AND IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
