Married at Holy Trinity, Hull, on 22 Aug 1915. Husband of Elizabeth Coates, at 19, Sovereign Place, William Street, Hull and 44, Mayfield Street, Hull (War Pension address). They had two daughters. A Labourer. Described as 5 foot 8 inches tall, 168 lbs weight, 39-41 inch chest, brown eyes, dark hair tinged with grey, Church of England religion.

Enlisted on 10 Sept 1914. Served as sergeant in the 11th EYR (Hull Pals) in Egypt and France. Transferred to the 8th East Yorkshire Regiment. Discharged on 18 May 1916. Awarded the Silver War Badge (No: 216210). Served in the army for 1 year and 252 days. Died on 15/03/1927, aged 49.
