BORN PAULL 1887. ENLISTED BEVERLEY. SON OF GEORGE & ELIZA FUSSEY, PAULL. LETTER FROM MUM REQUESTING HIS BELONGINGS.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE HENRY FUSSEY 33129. Born 10th July 1886, the seventh of eight children to George and Eliza Fussey of 12 Paull Street, Paull, Hull. Henry’s father was a Shepherd by trade and the low flat fields that back up to the Humber Estuary out to the east of Hull were his own livelihood too. Henry was a Farm Servant, a Foreman no less, by the time of the 1911 Census, a single man of 25 still at the family home with his younger sister. Then war came. Henry enlisted on 5th October 1916 and can’t have been long out of training when he was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 during the fighting for Oppy Wood. His body was never recovered and his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He was 30 years old.
