Galloway, Thomas

BORN HULL 1893. SON OF JOHN GALLOWAY (1848-1912) & SARAH ANN FOWLER (1859-1947), AT 46, CLEVELAND STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). SON OF A PAINT GRINDER FROM DUBLIN. ONE OF ELEVEN CHILDREN. ONE OF THREE BROTHERS KILLED IN THE WAR.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED AT THE SOMME, ON 16/09/1916, AGED 24. COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING. THOMAS GALLOWAY’S NAME WAS LISTED ON THE SPYVEE STREET WW1 MEMORIAL. HE LEFT SISTERS SARAH, EMMA, MARTHA, AND NANCY.
HIS BROTHER, GEORGE DAVID GALLOWAY ALSO SERVED WITH THE EYR, AND HAD BEEN WOUNDED AT THE SOMME, DYING OF HIS WOUNDS, IN ENGLAND, ON 17/07/1916. ANOTHER BROTHER, GUNNER, EVANS GALLOWAY, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY, DIED OF WOUNDS, IN BELGIUM, ON 15/11/1917.

HIS SISTER EMMA, ALSO DIED IN 1917.
