Garner, Aubee Samuel

BORN SIERRA LEONE 1890. SON OF SAMUEL & MARION GARVER. WIFE ADA – 26 PARKER ST, ARDWICK, MANCHESTER. 15 MEN LOST. HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS.

SS Hidalgo, built by Northumberland shipbuilding Co. Ltd., Newcastle in 1908 and owned at the time of her loss by Ellerman Wilson Line Ltd., Hull, was a British steamer of 4271 tons.
On August 28th, 1917, Hidalgo, on a voyage from Manchester to Arkhangelsk with general cargo & munitions, was sunk by the German submarine U-28 (Georg Schmidt), 120 miles NE1/2N from NordKapp. 15 persons were lost. They included his countrymen:-
