James Gillard, Royal Naval Reserve, HMT ‘KING EMPEROR’, lost 04/02/1916, aged 39.

BORN HULL 18/04/1875. SECOND OF FOUR SONS TO EDMUND GILLARD AND FANNY ASHFORD FOOTE. HE MARRIED AT HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, HULL, ON 03/03/1900. HUSBAND OF ALBERTA SABINA COOKE (1870-1918), OF 67 BRIGHTON STREET, HULL. THEY HAD SEVEN CHILDREN. HIS DAUGHTER ALBERTA SABRINA DOY, LIVED AT 70 BRIGHTON STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). DROWNED IN THE NORTH SEA, ON 04/02/1916,AGED 39. BURIED HULL WESTERN CEMETERY. HIS WIDOW DIED ON 18/04/1918 AND THREE OF HIS DAUGHTERS, IVY, FLORRIE AND IRENE, WERE LEFT TO THE NEWLAND HOMES ORPHANAGE.
NB: HIS BROTHER RICHARD GILLARD, FISHERMAN, LIVED 12 HENRY’S TERRACE, WASSAND STREET, HULL.
On February 4th, 1916, the British steamer HMT KING EMPEROR, built in 1914 and operated by British Royal Navy, was lost after a collision. 8 people lost their lives.
