Godfrey, Charles William

BORN HULL 1889. SON OF GEORGE GODFREY (1852-1934) & ELIZABETH GODFREY (1858-1937), OF 16 HORACE AVENUE, CAVE STREET, HULL.

ONE OF TWELVE CHILDREN. (FIVE BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS). HE WAS A SEAMAN AND HAD BEEN SAILING FROM HULL HULL, FOR TEN YEARS PRIOR TO THE WAR. HE RESIDED WITH HIS SISTER, MRS JEFFERSON, AT 27 WYNDHAM STREET, HULL

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT AND WENT TO FRANCE IN MARCH 1915 WITH COLONEL SHAW. HE  DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 29/06/1916, AGED 27. HE IS BURIED AT BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY. HE HAD BEEN HOME ON LEAVE,  FOUR WEEKS AGO, PRIOR TO HIS DEATH

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 23/07/1916. *
