Goulding, John

Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE JOHN GOULDING 11/971. Born in 1896, John was the youngest of seven children to William Goulding and Catherine Leap, of 11 Scarborough Terrace, Kent Street, Hull. A Furnisher’s Assistant by trade he enlisted at City Hall joining the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, 2nd Hull Pals, initially, before transferring to the 12th. John was killed in action on the Somme at Serre on 13th November 1916 and buried in Euston Road Cemetery; he was 20 years old. His army effects were left to his sister, Sarah Woolmer.

His grave inscription, reads, “ONE OF THE BEST NO OTHER CAN TAKE HIS PLACE R.I.P.”
