BORN HULL 12/09/1879. SON OF ELIZABETH GREENWOOD, AT THIS CWGC, NAVAL ADDRESS. COMMEMORATED ON THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL

HMS Ghurka, built by Hawthorn, Leslie & Co. Ltd., Newcastle in 1907 and owned at the time of her loss by Royal Navy, was a British destroyer of 880 tons.
On February 8th, 1917, HMS Ghurka was sunk by a mine from the German submarine UC-47 (Paul Hundius), 4 miles southeast of Dungeness. She sank almost immediately and 74 persons were lost.
