SON OF SAMUEL AND OLIVE GRINSELL, OF OF 49 THOMPSON STREET, BILSTON, STAFFORDSHIRE.

HE ENLISTED AT WEDNESBURY UNDERAGE. SERVED IN THE 6TH KING’S OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY.

HE MARRIED MARGARET  MIRIAM KANE (1900 -1975) AT HULL, IN JANUARY 1916.

HE APPEARED IN A COURT MARTIAL TRIAL IN HULL, ON 25/03/1916, (PRESUMABLY BECAUSE HE WAS UNDERAGE?)

HE WAS NEVERTHELESS RETURNED TO THE FRONT AND KILLED IN ACTION, DURING A TRENCH RAID, ON 12/03/1917, AGED 17. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 24TH MAY 1917. *

HIS WIDOW MARGARET, WAS AWARDED A WEEKLY WAR PENSION OF 13 SHILLINGS AND NINE PENCE FROM 08/10/1917, LIVNG AT 14 SOHAM TERRACE, WASSAND STREET, HULL (PENSION LEDGER ADDRESS). SHE REMARRIED IN 1919 – JOHN CRANE CARROLL (1892-1938) AND AGAIN IN 1962 (HERBERT WEST).
