SS Agnete, built by Howaldtswerke, Kiel in 1894 and operated at the time of her loss by The Shipping Controller (R. S. Dalgliesh, Ltd., mgrs.), London, was a Danish steamer of 1127 tons. In 1915, Agnete from the Dnaish company Torm A/S, was requisitioned by the Admiralty and handed over to Galdliesh Steam Shipping Co. On April 24th, 1918, Agnete, on a voyage from Newport to Rouen with a cargo of coal, was sunk by a German submarine , 4 miles SxW of Start Point. 12 persons were lost. Allen Tony 13/03/2009 The steamship AGNETE SS was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine four miles S. by W. of Start Point on April 24th, 1918 when on route from Newport to Rouen with a cargo of coal. Twelve men, including the captain, were killed.
