Private 3/6299 [SDGW} or 3/6269 [CWGC], 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment. Killed in action, 9 April 1915. Aged 21. Born Withernwick, 1894 and resident in Witherwick. Enlisted Hull. Son of James Webster Harsley (1863-1930) and Annie Elizabeth Hobson (1855-1929), of Withernwick, Hull. one of fours sons.

No known grave. Commemorated on YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Panel 21 and 31.

His army effects were left to his mother, Annie and brothers Walter and Hubert Harsley.

His other brother Private, Stanley Harsley, 22122, served in the 10th East Yorkshire regiment and was also killed, on 10/07/1916, aged 21. Both brothers are commemorated on the Withernwick WW1 memorial.
