BORN HULL 2nd October 1887. SON OF FRANCIS HATSWELL (1842-1892) AND ALICE JONES. BOTH PARENTS DECEASED. HE WORKED AS A BUTCHER AND LIVED WITH HIS ONLYBROTHER CHARLIE, AT 7, LONGCAT LANE BARNSLEY AND 27, GRANVILLE STREET, DUNNINGTON (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS).

ENLISTED BARNSLEY, ON 9TH DECEMBER 1915. CALLED UP, ON 13TH JUNE 1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 2ND DECEMEBER 1916. SERVED WITH THE 1ST/5TH YORK AND LANCASTER REGIEMNT, “D” COMPANY. WOUNDED ON 19TH SEPTEMBER 1917. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 11/04/1918, AGED 30.

COMMEMORATED ON THE TYNE COT MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

HE LEFT A £177 IN HIS WILL TO HIS BROTHER, CHARLES, WHO WAS A MINER.

NOTE: SOLDIER DIED RECORDS SAY HE WAS BORN IN HULL.
